Don’t just enjoy the view. Be a part of it.

I’m writing this thousands of feet in the air because the book I’ve packed in my hand luggage is one I’ve already read...  Plenty more where that came from in the case though.

Anyway, this message is thanks to the little girl sitting in the row in front of me. As we took off, she was fascinated with what was going on - the lights on the runway ground, the speed of the plane as it prepared for take off. She even clapped along with some of the other passengers when the take off was smooth sailing and bump-free. She peered through the window in sheer fascination.

We began to climb - the questions still coming in thick and fast. Then we broke through the clouds. As we did so, her tone of voice began to change. She asked who I think is an auntie next to her whether or not we were going to get any higher. Auntie replied saying yes. Shortly after this, the little girl proceeded to close the shutter on her window halfway. The questions became fewer and fewer. She was no longer as fixated on the wing of the plane we could see as we peered out.

A few moments later, the window shutter was pushed back up. Auntie commented on the shape of the clouds. Then the little girl went on to say the words which have shaped what I want to tell you next.

“Nice views. But I’m scared.” Shutter half-open once more.

Some reassurance and words of wisdom later, the shutter was rolled all the way up and the little girl’s nose was practically pressed against the window in excitement and wonder. That’s been the position of the shutter ever since. The sight of being high above the clouds no longer a reason to fear.

So now, a question.

Are you looking in the face of the person you want to be saying ‘nice view, but I’m scared’?

Are you fully aware that this next level you’re peering through your half-open shutter at is exactly where you want to go. But you don’t want to roll the shutter all the way up. You’re scared of what you’ll see, what’ll be required of you, what you’ll have to do, and who you’ll have to be.

I want to be to you who that auntie was to the little girl. I want to remind you that if you can SEE your next level - even if it’s currently being masked by the clouds you’ll have to break through to reach it - then it’s absolutely possible for you to get there. In fact, I want you to already be thinking about what’s beyond that to be honest. The sky’s the limit and, well I’m in it right now and it’s feeling pretty limitless to me.

But back to your half-open shutter and head full of fears - throw that shutter wide and look at what you’re fearing face to face.

Press your nose against the window if you must. Just get close enough to recognise it’s really not that scary after all.

Please, please don’t be someone who admires the view everyone who’s a few steps ahead of you in business has whilst being too anxious to fully experience it. You belong there too. You can SEE IT, remember? Which means the only person standing in your way - is you. Because no one’s actually told you that you don’t get a seat at the table, or a voice in the discussion. YOU’VE decided that’s what’s true.

Walk into the room.

Push through the clouds of doubt and inhale. Drink in deep.

You’ve made it! Now what?

Well, after congratulating yourself for how far you’ve come and making sure you take some time to celebrate, it’s time to assess the room. In doing so, you’ll recognise that in here it’s okay to talk about those big goals you have. Previously, those have only been goals reserved for the privacy of your own journal. You weren’t sure how people would take it if you actually spoke it aloud before.

How good does it feel to be able to dream out loud?

And guess what? Here, it’s not just dreaming you’ll experience, but DOING too.

And what does that look like?

I don’t mean the one or two odd sales you made before. I don’t mean the inconsistent up and down months. I don’t mean not charging what you’re worth because you were scared no one would pay what you really wanted to charge.

None of that.

I mean the high-level clients you’ve previously only dreamed of coaching.

I mean the big group program you’ve been wanting to open up.

I mean re-launching the course you’ve been waiting to increase the price of for the last 6-months.

All of that.

Remember, the world is waiting for your work.
